For Manufacturers: The Most Easily Ignored Steps to Make Luxury

Luxury Package–For Manufacturers: The Most Easily Ignored Steps to Make Luxury Package

1. Learning the product, learning the brand

So when you’re looking at luxury brands or any other brands that need quality package, there’s a lot to dig deep about the products that you can take from that.

When you’re looking at a product, let’s say it’s a new fragrance. In fragrance, the bottle is the product. It’s not the juice. It’s what you’re interacting with every day. How does that pump work? How does that lid come off? How does that feel in your hand? So what we can focus on first are structure and user experience. What are they going to do with that box after when they remove the lid? When do they open the box? How is that product going to be displayed? Is it going to be displayed to the consumer? Is it something that can be done where they can display on the shelf? Knowing it has a dual purpose and really focuses on that experience is the critical part. Once you design what that experience is going to be, then from there, you can move to the next step.

2. Know the size and manage your space

Let’s look at the size. Why? Because you have dozens of questions to check before you’re doing any design or productions. Questions are like: How many of packages are you shipping? How many of there are moving? How many of there are you storing? How many of these are going to each different distributor? retailer? What’s your shelf space? And from that, you really want to either minimize or maximize the space.

Your planned space really matters and it can influence many things like materials or structures. So let’s say you can fit ten on your given shelf, but if we adjust it by a quarter of an inch or two, 3mm here and there.  then you can now fit twelve. We can do that if it is necessary. We need to look at those sizes, and we don’t get into materials or visual or production until we’ve kind of narrowed down what that structure is and what that experience is going to be, because any structure can be made out of pretty much any material these days. We can either make it out of the folding carton, or we can make it out of a rigid one. There are corrugate so many different options, and it doesn’t really matter anymore.

3. Confirm materials for the product’s experience

Also, we need to focus on what the product’s experience is. Then what do you want to communicate now? If it is luxury, then we’re probably looking at rigid Ford. Is it going to be a one-millboard, a two-millboard? Are we talking 1000GSM, 1200 GSM? Because each of those is going to have a little bit of a different hand feel. Are we gonna do a double corner and any degree corner? All those different things in the structure, again, communicate quality and that luxury feel, which is the craftsmanship. So that’s where we really focus.

4. Trying to figure out if they have any special needs ahead

Sometime after we’ve made all the plans, including the materials we need. But later we found out they want to follow the new rules of their industry for sustainability to the brand. And today it’s really important to every brand. So can we get something that’s got a high level of recycled content in there which is FSC certified? But if we do not notice it, we won’t have happy clients.

So before we get our brand’s luxury package to start, we really need to analyze every detail of the brand’s needs. Learning the products, how much space we have, what materials we’re using and any special needs, probably materials or rules we need.
